We arrived in Valentia in county Kerry this afternoon. We had originally planned to start from Ballydavid a little bit further up the coast but some colleagues from Dublin suggested Valentia instead as they had some contacts their and could get us access to boats.

We unpacked pinta and did some basic tests to make sure everything still worked. Initially it all looked good but then the PIC started acting strange. In the process of diagnosing the PIC somebody (who shall remain nameless) unplugged the Gumstix and managed to shift it one pin over on its connector when they plugged it back in. The result was we’ve fried the Gumstix and the Iridium modem. Learning from our past experience in Austria we brought spares of everything so its not a major problem but there goes about £500 worth of equipment!
